One Free Zone Passport for Dubai Companies
The initiative of “One Free Zone Passport” is still a work in progress for now. It was first brought forward in May by the Dubai Free Zone (DFZ) Council and aimed to allow businesses to operate in and across different free zones in Dubai without applying for additional licenses specific to the different free zones.
The DFZ council is now working on the regulations to establish a unified licensing regime covering multiple free zones. “There will be terms and conditions that will need to be unified across the various free zones before the single licenses. That’s what we are working on.” said Ahmed Al Haddad, Chief Operating Officer - Parks and Zones at DP World.
Dubai Free Zone Council, consisting of 24 free zones in the emirate, is also connecting and adding new free zone clusters based on the specific industry needs, such as warehousing, logistics, etc.
More freedom, less paperwork and significant reduction in the operational costs cut can be expected by the free zone-based companies and businesses seeking to operate from multiple bases when this scheme is formally launched.
